Further Information

Athletes that participate in Watertown Youth Basketball will consist of boys and girls in 4th through 8th  and attend schools, both public and private, in the greater Watertown area and surrounding school districts.  If you have questions regarding participation, please email us.

Watertown Youth Basketball is a competitive basketball program.  It is an organization that strives to build basketball skills through camps, clinics and in season practices.  We want to provide a positive environment that will grow our players' basketball skill set and improve their basketball IQ.  Through the course of participating in the WYB program, players may also learn social and life skills that will help them throughout their childhood, and as adults, as they face adversity and possible disappointment, while enjoying success and accomplishment!

The "official" basketball season will begin roughly late October 2024, and run through February 2025 based on team practices, league play and final tournaments.  Before the official season begins, coaches will have the opportunity to schedule practices over the summer, and potentially a tournament and/or scrimmage if they choose.

Practices: There will be 1-2 practices per week held in Watertown area gymnasiums.

Tournaments: Teams travel to tournaments anywhere from 20  to 90 minutes away from Watertown.  Teams could participate anywhere from 2-5 tournaments on Saturdays or Sundays, including the Great Gosling Shootout held on February 8 - 9, 2025.

League Play:  Teams that enter the Badger Development League will be placed into the appropriate competition level which consists of red (most competitive), white (very competitive) and bucky (recreational).  Evaluations will help us advise coaches on the level that best suites his/her team.  The girls BDL season starts approximately mid-November and ends mid-February.  The boys season starts the beginning of December and ends mid to late February.  Each team will play 15 BDL league games over the course of 5 weekends, three games each weekend league games are scheduled (on a Saturday or Sunday, not both), plus and end of season BDL tournament.  There will be a bye week and time off during Holidays.

At many tournaments, our teams are expected to have someone (typically a parent) operate either the scoreboard or keep the official scorebook, along with someone from the opposing team. It is helpful for those that are comfortable with these responsibilities to rotate this task between games or weekends so that parents are able to enjoy watching their child play.

Watertown Youth Basketball players, coaches, and families are expected to positively represent Watertown on and off the court treating tournament hosts, officials, players, coaches, and fans with respect and adhere to the guidelines, protocols, and rules of the tournament hosts.

Fees for WYB are as follows:

2024-2025 Season: $250.00

Uniforms are the same for the 2024-2025 season.  Tops and bottoms, only tops, or only bottoms can be purchased if your son/daughter is in need because they're new to WYB or if he/she no longer fits into their current uniform.

Uniform Fee: $75.00
Uniform Fee (Jersey Only): $50.00
Uniform Fee (Shorts Only): $25.00

Team Selections

Players will be evaluated with their own grade level.  The high school coaching staff, WYB board members and current WYB coaches will lead the evaluations.  Teams will be determined and coaches will be notified by the WYB president. During that conversation, the WYB president and coach will discuss the skill level of the BDL that they should consider participating in.

TOURNAMENTS

WYB will host the Great Gosling Shootout in February.  Other than that, each team will have an allowance for up to four additional tournaments though out the season.  If a team qualifies for the state basketball tournament, WYB will pay the registration fee.  In the past, our 4th grade teams have not participated in the Great Gosling Shootout.

Volunteer Work Hours

The Great Gosing Shootout is our primary fundraiser, and in order for it to be successful, we need full participation from our WYB family!  Moms, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends can register on behalf of your family.  It is a two day event held at WHS, RMS and if needed, Webster, so there are multiple opportunities to earn hours.  The only real criteria is a person must be 12 years old.  Within your network, if you can fulfill a minimum of 4 volunteer hours, you will be refunded your $175.00 volunteer fee at the end of the season.  Gaining volunteers is sometimes a challenge, so we appreciate you understanding how important this tournament is!  Sign up with some family and/or friends and have fun with it!

Opportunities to sign-up for Great Gosling Shootout work hours will occur in the month leading up to the tournament and communicated through email and on our Facebook page

We are also hopeful we can host a Badger Developmental League weekend, which will also offer more volunteer hours.  More on that to come.
